TVS Continues Essential Work for U.S. Government and Initiates New Ways to Assist Program Participants Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Brevard, NC (March 30, 2020) — As a manufacturer of food that is essential for assistance programs and the U.S. military, Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS) is working hard to continue the production and packaging of their Mountain Maid products while maintaining safe procedures for all employees and program participants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For over a decade, TVS has manufactured a variety of Mountain Maid branded pancake and other mixes for the United States military for Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Troop Support. In a typical year TVS produces enough pancake mix to serve more than 4.3 million pancakes to service members.

New TVS program for students with disabilities in full swing

Brevard, NC (November 22, 2019) — Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS) has partnered with exceptional children’s programs in Transylvania and Henderson county high schools, along with the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) to supplement job readiness training and employment-related skills in their curriculums.

The TVS program, Preparation for Employment Success, is designed to provide Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to students with disabilities between the ages of 14 and 21. Services are designed to assist students in identifying and exploring potential career interests, as well as develop an understanding of work readiness skills necessary to be successful in the working world, or continue into higher education.

“Free Spirit” artwork returns home to TVS

Brevard, NC (November 18, 2019) — Every year the Free Rein Gala offers an opportunity for community members to participate in a silent and live auction. This year, TVS Life Skills participants created and donated “Free Spirit,” a mixed media piece of artwork. This beautifully crafted horse painting now carries a heartwarming journey.

“Free Spirit” was inspired by the fun and freedom that Free Rein provides for the TVS participants. The horse was created with different elements that relates to the experiences. The sand is representing the dusty ground, corn as a horse snack, and the feathers representing the outdoors and the feeling of flying that is experienced while riding the horses.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month recognized at TVS

Brevard, NC (October 18, 2019) – Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS) has been actively participating in National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), an annual awareness campaign that takes place each October. The purpose of NDEAM is to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. This year’s theme is “The Right Talent, Right Now.”

In honor of NDEAM, TVS would like to mention the achievements of our Employment Specialists this past month. Along with the dozens of job opportunities at the TVS facility, the Employment Services team at TVS matches adults with disabilities with competitive employment opportunities at other regional businesses.

TVS Honors National DSP Week

Brevard, NC (September 17, 2019) – Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS) spent last week honoring and celebrating the almost 30 Direct Support Professionals (DSP) employed by the organizition with a variey of themed activites, games and food. DSPs work directly with individuals with develpomental and/or intellectual disabilities, with the aim of assisitng individuals to lead self-determined lives and be involved in the community.

TVS Sponsoring and Employing, a full circle of success

Brevard, NC (August 27, 2019) – For the second year in a row, Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS) has donated to the Connestee Falls Student Scholarship Program, maintaining a bronze level sponsorship.

The Connestee Falls Scholarship Fund has assisted deserving students of Brevard College, Blue Ridge Community College, and Brevard and Rosman High School graduates for the past 31 years.

Along with supporting the scholarship, TVS also employs recent recipients.

TVS  Commits to Employees as being Living Wage Certified

Brevard, NC (August 1, 2019) –    It has been a year since Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS) became the 55th business in Transylvania County to be Living Wage Certified by The Living Wage Coalition of Transylvania County (LWCTC). TVS is the second largest living wage certified employer in the county. TVS joined over 50 other businesses in Brevard and is looking to be reevaluated in 2020. The LWCTC requires businesses to recertify every two-years.

“We wanted to be living wage certified as a way to show our commitment to our employees,” said TVS CEO Jamie Brandenburg.

TVS Receives Two Contractor of the Year Awards from the USDA

Brevard, NC (July 25, 2017) – Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS), a social enterprise contract manufacturer in Brevard, NC, was recognized for outstanding support and service by two distinct agencies within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Marking the fourth time in 12 years that the USDA has honored TVS with such accolades, Becky Alderman, COO, and Nancy Stricker, Board Member and retired CEO, attended the June 22nd ceremony in Washington, D.C. to accept the awards.
